New set photos have revealed a new suit for Sam Wilson in Captain America: New World Order. Having officially become the next Captain America in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Wilson was granted an impressive new costume courtesy of Wakanda. However, it seems as though Sam will be wearing some brand-new threads in his first full-feature movie as the new Captain America.
Ahead of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier finale, Wilson was given his new costume by Bucky Barnes who had asked the Wakandans to make Sam a new suit representative of his decision to finally wield Steve Rogers’ shield and become the next Captain America. Predominantly white with blue and red highlights for the colors, the durable vibranium suit also came with its own wings modeled after his original EXO-7 wings he wore as Falcon. However, it seems as though Sam will be trading that suit for a brand-new one in Captain America: New World Order.
Sam Wilson Might’ve Had To Give Up His White Captain America Costume (Or Had It Taken Away)
As seen in new set photos, it looks a though Wilson is wearing a new suit in Captain America 4. Beyond Marvel Studios’ tendency to change up costumes with sequels for fresh merchandising, one has to wonder why Sam Wilson had to give up his new white suit that’s only been seen in use once during his and Bucky’s final battle with the Flag-Smashers. It stands to reason that it would be very hard to destroy considering it was made in Wakanda.
Perhaps Wakanda is the reason why Sam no longer has the suit. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever established the MCU is experiencing an international arms race over vibranium, so much so that other countries have attempted raids on Wakandan facilities. Considering the teases that Captain America: New World Order will be continuing this narrative, perhaps Wakanda takes the suit back, not wanting another nation’s incredibly symbolic hero to be wearing their vibranium, itself a symbol of their own nation (though this idea would also put the shield at risk). It would certainly be an interesting way to frame the new tensions between Wakanda and the rest of the world.
Sam Wilson’s New Blue Captain America Costume Could Be For A Stealth Mission
That being said, perhaps the costume change is only temporary. After all, Sam Wilson’s white Captain America suit is quite flashy compared to this blue suit which is more toned-down. The blue suit also resembles Steve Rogers’ stealth suit he wore in Captain America: The Winter Soldier and in the beginning of Avengers: Endgame (Chris Evans’ favorite Cap suit). Perhaps the costume change in Captain America: New World Order is also for a stealth mission, though MCU fans will likely get their answer when the movie releases in May of 2024.
