Who Will The Girls Eat Next On Yellowjackets? X Biggest Theories

[ad_1]

Warning: The following article contains spoilers for Yellowjackets season 2, episode 2.

Even only two episodes into Yellowjacketsseason 2, the question of who the girls will eat next is already a part of some big theories. The Yellowjackets team has survived the summer, but as the temperatures drop during a blistering Ontario winter and resources become scarce, everyone begins to question how long they’ll survive on whatever Nat and Travis can collect on their hunting expeditions. The shock of Jackie’s death from frostbite outside the cabin has gradually worn off, leaving everyone more concerned about how to prevent joining her in the meat shed. Fate intervenes, and a funeral pyre for the fallen Yellowjacket becomes a smoker.

With the smell of freshly barbecued meat filling the crisp air and Shauna’s eerie blessing – ‘”She wants us to.” – the team attacks Jackie’s body with all the abandonment of hedonists at a Dionysian feast. Coach Ben observes them, both repulsed and transfixed from the shadows, wondering about his own fate. As death provides life, the desperation for sustenance subsides for the moment, but the threat of the team turning against one another once the pangs of hunger return in full force looms – making the question more who the girls will eat next on Yellowjackets, and not whether they will.

4 Coach Ben

Ben-Yellowjackets

After having his leg amputated in Yellowjackets season 1, Coach Ben’s chances of survival aren’t looking too good, while his chances of being eaten by the girls is looking more likely. Compared to the rest of the team, Ben doesn’t contribute in any substantial way, and after Lottie’s clear ascension to dominance last season, his status as an elder in a position of authority has been precarious at best. The only thing he’s been doing to make himself useful is helping to piece together a map of the wilderness based on Nat and Travis’s diurnal expeditions.

If someone with a lot of emerging authority, like Lottie, decides that Ben needs to be sacrificed for the good of the girls’ survival, he will be, and his death will fit her spiritual-leaning narrative. Ben didn’t join the girls in eating Jackie in Yellowjackets season 1, episode 1, “Friends, Romans, Countrymen,” suggesting that Yellowjackets season 2 cannibal scene indicates he’ll be the next to die because, other than being sick, he won’t do anything morally unconscionable to keep up his strength.

3 Crystal

Crystal is a new character in Yellowjackets season 2 for viewers, but the way other survivors of Flight 2525 treat her, it’s clear that she’s been a longtime part of the team, most likely seen in the background. She irritates the rest of the girls with her constant singing and humming, particularly Misty during a rendition of “The Glory of Love,” during a bathroom break, indicating that she’s not completely welcome in the group. A musical theater fan with a penchant for being in her own little world, Crystal will need to make herself absolutely necessary in order to not get picked off.

Suggesting to Misty that she teaches her to sing so they can harmonize in duets seems to be a solid strategy whether subconsciously done or not – because Misty, while not exactly one of the most popular members of the group, either, is definitely the most resourceful. Misty will do whatever it takes to survive, but no one should get on her bad side, because she has a habit of eradicating loose ends, from the black box of Flight 2525 to nosy reporters. Crystal will want to keep close to Misty so that she has someone to vouch for her when the girls run out of viable protein.

2 Mari

Mari leans forward in her seat on the plane in Yellowjackets

Since the opening scene of Yellowjackets season 1, fans have been wondering who the long-haired brunette is that the girls in the “Cannibal Court” hunt with spears. Since Lottie’s dreams and visions have helped her gain supremacy in the group, it’s possible that this person is actually Mari. Unbeknownst to the rest of the group (and herself), Mari added the hallucinogenic mushrooms to the stew during Doomcoming that made everyone momentarily take leave of their senses and engage in bizarre, ritualistic behavior that almost fatally hurt Travis.

Mari gained the upper hand over Misty after the latter was revealed to be the one behind the stew’s poisoning, assigned to food preparation while Misty was relegated to fetching water, but that doesn’t mean that Mari couldn’t be selected for part of the meal itself. She’s made sarcastic remarks about Lottie talking to “Dead Cabin Guy” and Shauna talking to Jackie’s cadaver in the meat shed, which could put her on the bad side of the group’s two strongest women. When Lottie has a dream about Laura Lee later in the episode, she also notably and briefly mutates into an image that looks like Mari’s bloody head.

1 Young Shauna’s Baby

Shauna in the woods as a teenager in Yellowjackets

There’s been wild speculation that something terrible will happen to young Shauna’s baby, particularly since it will be difficult for an infant to survive in such unforgiving circumstances. At this point in Yellowjackets season 2, Shauna is now seven months pregnant, and as the date for the birth of her child draws near, resources remain precarious, even with the sudden influx of meat provided by Jackie’s smoked corpse. It’s possible that the baby could still be born, but possibly consumed at a later time after it’s unable to survive given Shauna’s starved state.

What happens to Shauna’s baby in Yellowjackets remains a mystery in the present day, and her daughter Callie is too young to be the same age as the baby, which would need to have been born 25 years prior. Even if the baby isn’t consumed for the purpose of providing nourishment, it could still be part of something suggested by Lottie or one of her followers as she becomes more powerful. After all, Lottie did at some point warn everyone that blood would need to be spilled in order for them to survive the wilderness, but has never specified how much or from whom, and the baby could be part of that mysterious statement.
