Are you a teenager staring at your comb in shed-induced panic? When hair fall starts early, it feels like an alien experience. You don’t know what’s happening, and the stress only makes it worse.
I went through the same thing. Today, at 30 years old, I can finally look back and understand exactly where I went wrong. Here is my journey from hostel-room experiments to finding a permanent solution.
When I was in 10th Grade, I lived in a hostel in Shimla. It was freezing for six months of the year, and being away from home, I had no one to guide me. Because it was so cold, I used very hot water to wash my head.
I developed what I thought was just “dandruff.” I panicked and tried every commercial bottle on the shelf—Head & Shoulders, Clean & Clear, even Beer Shampoo. When those failed, I listened to seniors and slathered my scalp in oils—Bhringraj, Kesh Kanti, Coconut, and Almond oil. I even shaved my head 5–6 times, thinking the hair would grow back thicker. Nothing worked.
The biggest lesson I’ve learned in 15 years is that hair health is a reflection of your gut. In the hostel, my diet was poor. I thought I was getting “nutrition” because I ate eggs, but nutrition is a vast science. My gut was sluggish and toxic.
I used to wash my hair daily to ‘wash away’ the dandruff, but this only damaged my scalp further. While we all want quick results, it’s important to understand the biological limits of how long hair grows in 1 week to set realistic expectations
If you have active dandruff, stop applying oil immediately. Oil acts as food for the fungus that causes dandruff. Instead, use medical-grade solutions for 2–3 weeks to reset your scalp.
By stimulating the scalp with back-combing, you provide the nutrients needed for long-term health. Over time, you’ll notice a significant difference in your hair growth rate by age, as younger follicles tend to respond much faster to these rituals.
Patience is key. When you switch to natural methods, don’t expect a mane overnight. Tracking how long hair grows in a year will show you that consistency pays off more than expensive ‘miracle’ products.
