Overview

The Valley of Flowers is located about 3352 to 3658 meters above sea level in Uttarakhand of the Himalayan region. The valley of flowers is an exotic place to visit if you are interested in plants, nature, and beautiful views. This place has been a famous National Park since 1982. Now, the valley is under the title of UNESCO World Heritage site from July 14th, 2005. This is a remotely located place and can take about three days to reach from Haridwar.
Valley of Flowers also holds a place in the mythology of Ramayana wherein Hanuman brought magical herbs for Laxman, brother of Rama. It is believed that Hanuman plucked the herbs from this valley. This is a most welcoming place to the residents and tourists who would like to explore flora and fauna of the same. It takes almost a week to finish exploring this wonderland.

Best Time to do the Valley of Flowers trek

The best time to do the valley of flowers trek is during the monsoon months of July and August. These months are where most people visit this place, and it is crowded during these months. This means we only have four months to visit this wonderland and to explore all kinds of flora. But it will stay open till the end of September. During winter season the park remain closed.
It is said to be an easy to moderate trek. Even a beginner can surely take up this trek to experience many things outside their environmental bubble. They can also learn about various flora and fauna of that region and take back that experience and knowledge home for a lifelong to remember.

Things to know before you go

  • The first and foremost thing to do is follow the rules laid down by the Government of India about maintaining social distance, face masks, and proper hand sanitiser.
  • Valid ID proofs to be carried so that this can be used for any emergencies or checking purposes.
  • Always follow the trek guide for a safe and sound trekking experience. They can also help you with additional information about the locations you will be witnessing during the trek.
  • This valley is 100% eco-friendly, and hence littering the surrounding is a punishable offence.
  • Hotels are a luxurious part that may not be available at all times of the trek. Hence the availability of electricity is not specific, and trekkers have to bring their power banks if they feel necessary.
  • Carrying water cans is an essential thing that can be refilled whenever possible.
  • Snacks or food items also can be bought along with you from home if you feel it is necessary.
  • Using earphones at a much higher altitude would hinder the audibility, so it is not encouraged to do so.
  • To maintain the ecology of this place, it is good to avoid most of the plastic use or be disposed of properly.
  • Trekkers who choose to be part of a company (travel organization) will be brought to this location in neat and sanitized vehicles with only a driver who is an expert in driving on hilly roads.
  • Weather conditions are the main factor to consider while taking up this trek because all the activities to be conducted will be based on the climatic condition.
  • The more the luggage, the heavier the hassle. So it is recommended to carry a minimal weight instead of making it too much to carry.
  • There are chances for waste of time which will have to be added to the travel plan because of some uncertain reasons like road blocks due to landslides, as it is a monsoon trek.
  • Trekker’s can’t expect luxury except for a starry sky above their tent houses.
  • It is better to carry some extra warm clothes on a safer side to keep oneself warm during the day or even at night.
  • Post booking, each individual will get the trek route if a travel organization accompanies you
  • Consumption of alcohol or intake of any other kind of intoxicant substances is strictly prohibited.
